“No te pido flores”, llegara a toda Latinoamérica.
Olga Tañón, Carlos Santana, Ricardo Montaner, David

To me, music is
happiness, shades of colors, light," says Fanny Lu as
she describes how she sees her craft. Although she could
very well be describing her own personality. The
Colombian singer is her country’s new voice and her
first album, entitled "Lagrimas calidas" (Warm tears),
has opened doors that no one will be able to close.
"Music has always been my life," assures the songwriter
who was born in Cali. "Ever since I was a little girl I
was encouraged at home by my family, until I turned my
bedroom into a recording studio," she recalls.
And although she studied engineering, it didn’t take her
long to find the way. First, as a model, later hosting
television and radio shows, until she became an actress,
performing soaps. "Destiny always shows you which way to
follow," she states.
And destiny took care of it, leading the way, so her
first single "No te pido flores" ("I won’t ask you for
flowers") is being heard in every corner of Latin
America. It has been selected the main theme song of
several novelas, reaching the number one spot in
Billboard’s Tropical chart, and receiving the "Movil de
oro," the top award given to an artist who gets 30,000
cell hits in a few weeks.
Jose Gaviria and Andres Munera were in charge of the
album’s musical production. They have worked with top
ranking artists, like Olga Tanon, Carlos Santana,
Ricardo Montaner, David Bisbal and Noelia, among others.
The album was recorded in Miami at Crescent Moon
Studios, joined by a group of top musicians with
excellent trayectories, like Egidio Cuadrado, Jhon
Lozano, Tobby Tobon, Andres Castro, Andres Rosado, Teddy
Mulet and Richard Bravo.
In Colombia, this album has earned four "Shock" awards,
reaching gold status due to sales figures. Recently,
Fanny Lu was a big hit when she performed on stage at
the Univeristy of Miami’s Bank United Center, next to
important music stars during Premios Juventud, a yearly
event organized by Univision Television Network.
"Lagrimas calidas" has the feel of the new generation of
singers and the modern sound that the public wants. "We
are focused into mixing styles, playing with each one of
them," she said, explaining how music genres, like
vallenato, merengue, bachata, and other Caribbean rythms
were added to her musical formula. "There’s as much
tambora as accordeon," she said.
This artist follows Juan Luis Guerra’s footsteps. He’s
one of her influences. "I think that he’s a great
musician; a teacher, a poet. He has lead the way and I
would love to follow his footsteps. That’s the road I
would love to take," she explains. Fanny Lu grew up
listening to the Dominican artist’s music, as well as
the queen of salsa, Celia Cruz. And of course, Carlos
Vives, from her beloved Colombia.
"There’s no doubt that I still need to grow up more and
that I have a lot to learn. But I have gained
self-confidence after my first experiences and I see a
road ahead full of great possibilities. I’m thrilled to
know that there are wonderful things ahead in my career
and that it’s up to me to follow through and to make
them a reality --with passion and work," said this
artist whose eyes reflect the same feeling of excitement
that she transmits to her audiences when she performs.
An artist who believes in solidarity
Fanny Lu goes beyond singing love songs, she practices
what she preaches, sharing love through her work. This
artist believes in solidarity getting involved in
community causes, like being the image for Colombia’s
FAO’s Telefood campaign and joined by other stars from
all over the world, involved in collecting funds for
projects that help in the fight against hunger.
"It‚s very important for musicians to do our share
projects, since we are able to move people, not only
because we can reach them, but because we can touch
their hearts," she reflects.
Music to the World
Fanny Lu’s music boom recognizes no geographical
boundaries: From South to Central America, and North
America, where she performed next to artists like
Alejandro Sanz, David Bisbal, Jennifer Lopez and Juan
Luis Guerra in New York’s Madison Square Garden and in
Miami’s American Airlines Arena and Carnival Center. And
also in Europe.
Spain also opened its doors. Recently, she conducted a
promotional tour that took her through Madrid,
Barcelona, Tenerife (The Canary Islands) and Santiago de
Compostela, winning the hearts of Spaniards with her
contagious smile, charm and magic.
She earned Spain’s solid support.
"In life, you have to enjoy what you do. That’s what
it’s all about. It’s a great privilege to be able to
turn my greatest passion into a profession," summarizes
this artist, flashing a smile that’s already a source of
inspiration to her thousands of fans throughout the
Hispanic world. |
